The City of Steamboat Springs has expanded and improved its website to make it more user-friendly and to provide you with up to date happenings on the new City News page.

Yampa Valley Recycles

The following items can be recycled at Waste Management, curbside or The Green Machine:

#1 through #7 plastics (water/soda bottles, butter/yogurt tubs) glass, tin & steel cans,
paperboard (cereal/tissue boxes, paper towel/toilet paper rolls), newspaper, phone books, magazines, and junk mail

Please do not contaminate with:
Styrofoam, plastic bags/wrap, waxy cartons, pesticide/motor oil containers or toys

Crystal Darkness - Important TV Program on Meth

Crystal Darkness is a 30-minute gripping documentary underscoring the frightening truth about Meth’s devastating attack on our youth and their families. View Flyer

The program is targeted for youth and their parents, but the message extends with conviction to an entire community and throughout our nation. If you are not yet aware of the seriousness of the Meth problem in our neighborhoods, then the images and stories shared in this film will prove to be both shocking and scary.

City Acquires Biedenharn Parcel

The City of Steamboat Springs recently completed acquisition and preservation of the 35-acre Biedenhard property, which is located on Emerald Mountain and the Yampa River.

New Historic Preservation Ordinance

The City is proposing a new Historic Preservation ordinance, which significantly changes the procedures associated with historic preservation. The new ordinance will be reviewed during the following public hearings:

• City Planning Commission - January 8, 2009 6:00 PM Centennial Hall
• City Council - January 20, 2009 5:00 PM Centennial Hall (First Reading)
• City Council - February 3, 2009 5:00 PM Centennial Hall (Second Reading)

Interested in Volunteering?

The citizens of Steamboat Springs are invited to apply to serve on the Summer Marketing Task Force/Committee. There are four positions open: Two positions with marketing background, and two business owner positions.

This new Task Force will be working with representatives of the Chamber and the City Council to determine the best strategy and appropriate amount of funding for summer marketing of the community. Questions? Contact Wendy DuBord at 879-2060. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2009.

Alcohol Server Training

The City Clerk’s Office will be sponsoring a City-wide Steamboat Springs Alcohol Resource Training class for all of our local liquor-licensed establishments. Police Officers Joshua Carrell and Debra Funston will be teaching the class.

The class will be held:

• Thursday, January 8, 2009, 1:00pm to 3:30pm.
• Location: Citizens’ Meeting Room, Centennial Hall, 124 10th Street

"Good Housekeeping" Web Broadcast

American Public Works Association Presents: "Good Housekeeping" Web Broadcast.
Citizen's Hall in Centennial Hall
Thursday, December 18th, from 9am - 11:15am.
Donuts and coffee will be provided.

The City of Steamboat Springs is a MS4 phase II municipality and one of the State Permit requirements is Good Housekeeping. This broadcast will be an informative, educational seminar examining Good Housekeeping practices relating to day to day operations associated with City Maintenance procedures.

Public Works, Utilities, Streets, and Public Safety will be in attendance.
